Ramcharitmanas written by Tulsidas in Ayodhya in Vikram Samvat 1631 (1574 CE). The Ramcharitmanas is divided in seven kaṇḍas (episodes or books), which are divided into 1,073 stanzas and about 12,800 lines. The first two kaṇḍas are the Bāl Kaṇḍ (Childhood Episode) and the Ayodhya Kaṇḍ.

Ramcharitmanas literally means “the lake of the life story of Rama.” Just like a lake, Tulsi wanted his book to be easily accessible. Unlike a temple, a lake can be approached from any side; there is no fixed entrance. Tulsidas wanted his book to bring peace of mind to its readers.

Shri Ramcharitmanas holds a unique place in Hinduism. It’s an epic poem brimming with teachings for all of humanity. In its verses, it explores into the significance of connecting with saintly individuals, one’s responsibilities towards parents, Guru, family, and society as a whole.
